TGJ 4O0 – February 2020

April 8, 2020 – Moving forward, I will be attempting a google hangout tomorrow (thursday) during this normally scheduled class time – I will say 10:20am (class would normally start at 10:15am)

For any students who are able to attend, we can discuss any experiences we have had relevant to the changes we are going through, and talk about what class is going to look like moving forward.

I will send the invite to the google hangout to your k12 account.

April 7, 2020 – As I ensure contact with students and we move forward, I would like you to choose one of the following 2 options (you may do both if you are feeling interested)

  1. Using any photographic device (your phone or otherwise), try to capture an element of life that is unique to our current time. This could be the closed sign on a store or an empty parking lot.  It could also be a great photo of a family time inside your own house.
  2. If you are not interested in taking a photo, formulate a small reflection on how communications technology have helped us or hindered us over the past month. Consider any issues which may have arised, or problems they may have solved.

March 9, 2020 – Photography group work.

2 assigned tasks for today :

(1) Print off one of the photos you have taken so far on 11×17 inch paper.  Prepare the photo as a PDF using adobe indesign.

(2) Group photography project – Your group photography project will be to create a 3 or 4 frame comic strip using Light painting as the medium.  As a group, you will plan a plot and dialog for the comic strip, and then make the images using light painting.

As an alternative, if you are not successful with light painting, you may use photos you have taken, that have filters and other edits applied to add to the presentation.

By the end of today, each individual should have created a flickr account and uploaded at least 1 album with at least 3 photos in it.

We should have this completed by the end of Wednesday.

February 27, 2020 –

Today you are to continue on your first assignment, a print media document with at least 6 examples of content.

Group members may also create a “teaser” poster which would promote your media group, and potentially generate interest.

February 25, 2020 –

Today, we will begin to form groups our own new media production groups.  Small media producers are the communications technology professionals of 2020. These groups will exist now and continue on through the semester as we build our team work skills.

Today, we will start by group formation.  The only criteria for group formation is that the group should have 2 or 3 people.

Once you have formed your group, you are to start to plan the group.  First off, what will you call yourself?  What will be your organization’s colours? What types of media products do you wish to create over the next 73 days?  Are you specialists or generalists?

Next, begin to assess the members of the group.  The easiest way to do this will be for group members to interview each other. After interviewing, you are to write a biography of each other to promote the individuals as members of the group – This would be suitable content for the “About” page of a website, for example.

Decide on a web presence – WordPress, Blogger, Wix and Google Sites all offer free web hosting options.  If you choose a platform which doesn’t work for you – No worries! You can change and it won’t be bad.  Start to build a website that will promote, showcase, and serve as the center of your new media production group.   Once you have chosen a platform, you may start customizing – adding images, content, changing themes, changing colours.

Checklist for today :

Form a group of 2 or 3 people.

Decide on a name for your new media production group

Decide on organization colours

Brainstorm ideas for media to produce

Identify strengths

Interview group members, Write peer biography

Start researching or decide upon a web presence
