TGJ 4M – Fall 2019

November 18, 2019 –

Today we will start working today on two separate ideas – Video tricks and illusions, and making connections in the community.

  1. Video tips and tricks – Create a short video where you implemenent at least 1 or 2 video(editing) tricks to create an entertaining optical illusion.  You may work in a group, and your video can be of any length.

2. Creating connections in the community –

Today, we will begin the component of the course where we build connections in the community and use our various communications technology skills in a generious, altruistic way.  Think of an organization within the community that might benefit from some of the skills you posess (think poster making, designing christmas cards, a small video), and build connections with that organization.  If you have existing connections you wish to build on, that is great. If you are hesitant to make connections, I can take you to the second chance pet network.   This is an opportunity for you to use communications technology for good.

Consumer electronics 2019

Consumer electronics and communications go hand in hand.

Today, you will start researching communications devices that are currently on the market, with the ultimate goal of picking an item you would describe as “the hottest new technology for consumers”

Research at least 3 new gadgets, and pick one that you consider to be your best.  Be sure to mention all three in your assignment.   Try to stick with technology that is new within the last 5 years at most.  The newer the better, try to find something you didn’t know existed!

In terms of comparisons, you should choose at least 8 criteria to judge these items by, including :

Resolution

Zoom

Weight/ Dimensions

Price

Features

Level of expertise

Battery life

Outputs/ Storage devices

In addition, please include the retailer you have found the item at.

Finish this research by stating wether you feel this new technology will have a far reaching impact on society, or if it is just a new take on something that already exists.

You can start with the following link to research some tech gadgets –

  • Light painting progress –

For this assignment, you are to prepare a finished product light painting photo edit.  This photo must be printed on minimum 8.5 x 11 paper, for display in the hallway.

The expectations for this assignment are as follows :

Choose one of your light painting photos to create a photo edit.  Use all of your available tools to edit this photo, including :

Blending multiple photos through layers

Adding elements of other images

Use of fliters

Use of text

  • Communication Analysis and reflection –

Using a comm tech medium (photography, video, or audio) – attempt to analyze, speak of personal experience, or conduct interviews regarding communications in 2019.

Specifically, you may choose a news article related to an app, you may describe a specific experience you have had or have witnessed, or a topic Mr. Darling provides.

Through the analysis and reflection, be sure to comment on the relationship between your subject and yourself, and your subject and all people in Canada.
