Today, you have 3 tasks to complete -
1. Fill out the "Getting to know you" form - Posted here
2. Learn about high school laboratory safety by doing a google search for "High School Lab safety." As a comment on this post, list 4 lab safety rules that you may not have been familiar with in the past. Answer in sentances. You may wish to find youtube videos describing lab safety, include the link and write a short description of the video.
3. Attempt the form Exploring the modern periodic table. You will want to search extensively to find the answers for this form. Try your best, and be sure to submit your answers by the end of the period.

Today, you are working with the explore learning website.
You are to complete the worksheet which is distributed by Mr. Chandler and complete the 5 question multiple choice quiz below the gizmo.
SVN 3E – Monday, December 12
Today, you are to begin preparing the questions we will ask the school regarding their angling habits.
You are to come up with 5 survey questions we can use to compile a survey that will be distributed to the school. Design your questions to get as much information from a broad audience as possible. Example questions are :
1. What species do you normally target? Do you only target one species?
2. How often do you go fishing? How many days or hours per year do you fish?
3. Are you normally a shore or boat angler?
4. Do you fish for consumption (to eat your catch)
Once you have completed your 5 questions, print them off and hand them in or post them as a comment to this post.
With the time you have left over, make a suitable poster for one of the two topics:
1. REMOVE LIDS FROM PLASTIC BOTTLES (Signs for Cafeteria and classrooms)
2. Compost all Fruits and Vegetables here (signs for the cafeteria)

Access these at www.explorelearning.com. Your teacher has the list of passwords.
After using the Gizmos, please post the following as a comment on this post :
1. How were you able to charge the pith ball? What was happening when you did this?
2. What are some of the biggest energy users in a household? Did any devices surprise you about how much electricity they used?
3. When done both of these, find a video of a spectacular lightning strike and include it in your comment - That's static electricity!

There are 4 gizmos posted for you - Addititve Colours, Subtractive Colours, A basic Prism and Ray Tracing with Mirrors.
Navigate through these four gizmos and attempt the multiple choice quizes that are below them to test your understanding.
When you are done, post 1 thing that you learned about the properties of light today, as a comment on this post.

Today, you will be researching careers where a knowledge of Chemistry is a pre-requisite. You may find yourself doing a lot of searching before you find a career that really appeals to you. If you cannot find a career that states a knowledge of Chemistry, you may ask the supply teacher about careers that you think might require a knowledge of Chemistry.
When you have found a career or two which requires a knowledge of Chemistry, answer the following as a comment on this post:

3) Who would be opposed to Buy Nothing Day?
4) Visit the website Adbusters. What are some interesting methods they use to communicate anti-consumerism?
